Current thoughts about politics
My translation of a key verse
describing Washington and Concord today
By
Andrew J. Manuse
Most current politicians, union officials, religious leaders and government employees: "...they say but do not perform. They create heavy burdens and put them on the shoulders of men, but they themselves are not willing to budge them with their fingers. All of their actions are done to please the superficial desires of men; for they broaden the meaning of words clearly articulated by the just and hold their clearly illogical statements as their self defense. They dress and act like they are better than everyone else. They like the most prominent place at evening meals and the front seats at places of respect and honor and other public places where men and women meet. They look to be called leaders among their equals. But the true servants of God and men do not look for honor in this world because there is only one Teacher and only One to be honored, and all of us are equal under Him. Moreover, do not call anyone your father on earth, for one is your Father, the heavenly One. Neither be called leaders, for your Leader is one, the Christ. The greatest one among you is your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted." - Matthew 23:1-12
